From Data to Knowledge: Big Data applications and solutions
Big data is an emerging paradigm applied to datasets whose size is large and complex that traditional data processing applications are inadequate. Such datasets are often from various sources (Variety) yet unstructured such as sensors, social media, scientific applications, surveillance, video and image archives, data indexing, medical records, business transactions and web logs; and are of large size (Volume) with fast data in/out (Velocity). More importantly, big data has to be of high value (Value) and establish trust in it for business decision making (Veracity). To realize the full potential of Big
Data, we need to address several challenges and develop suitable conceptual and technological solutions for dealing them. These include life-cycle management of data, large-scale storage, flexible processing infrastructure, data modelling, scalable machine learning and data analysis algorithms, techniques for sampling and making trade-off between data processing time and accuracy, and dealing with privacy and ethical issues involved in data sensing, storage, processing, and actions.
Prospective authors are cordially invited to submit their original contributions covering completed or ongoing work related to the area of Big Data applications and solutions. The topics include but are not limited to:
